How to connect HackMD
HackMD runs locally from a Node.js package published to the npm registry: hackmd-mcp version 1.5.7. It speaks MCP over stdio, so the client starts it as a program and talks to it through standard input and output. It needs Node.js; clients usually start it with npx — the usual command is npx -y hackmd-mcp@1.5.7. It reads these environment variables: HACKMD_API_TOKEN (required, secret) and HACKMD_API_URL; set them in the client's configuration for this server.
HackMD runs locally from a container image in an OCI registry such as Docker Hub or GitHub Container Registry: ghcr.io/yuna0x0/hackmd-mcp:1.5.7. It speaks MCP over stdio, so the client starts it as a program and talks to it through standard input and output. It needs Docker or another OCI container runtime; started with docker run — the usual command is docker run -i --rm -e HACKMD_API_TOKEN -e HACKMD_API_URL ghcr.io/yuna0x0/hackmd-mcp:1.5.7. It reads these environment variables: HACKMD_API_TOKEN (required, secret) and HACKMD_API_URL; set them in the client's configuration for this server.
HackMD runs locally from an MCP Bundle: a single downloadable archive holding a local server and a manifest that describes it: https://github.com/yuna0x0/hackmd-mcp/releases/download/v1.5.7/hackmd-mcp-1.5.7.mcpb. It speaks MCP over stdio, so the client starts it as a program and talks to it through standard input and output. It needs a client that installs MCP Bundles; the file is opened in, or added to, that client. It reads these environment variables: HACKMD_API_TOKEN (required, secret) and HACKMD_API_URL; set them in the client's configuration for this server.
In the mcpServers JSON format that many desktop and editor MCP clients read, the entry looks like this (placeholders in angle brackets):
