What is an MCP server?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside tools and data. A service that runs an MCP server describes its tools — search, look up, create — in a form any MCP-capable assistant understands, and the assistant can then call them on your behalf.

For a traveller this means an assistant can check live availability, look up an order or find a route by asking the service itself, instead of guessing from web pages.

An MCP server can be remote (a URL the assistant connects to) or local (a package you run). This directory lists remote servers where the service publishes one.
